Preventative Dentistry
Dental disease can be entirely preventable. Left untreated, it can lead to serious health problems such as infection and tooth loss. Infection from tooth disease can spread to other parts of the body and in rare cases, can lead to death.
Preventive dentistry emphasizes the importance of ongoing dental hygiene protocol and daily practices to prevent tooth decay, gum disease and tooth loss.
By using the latest diagnostic techniques and dietary counseling, Dr. Chahine will fashion a Health Oriented Prevention Program suitable for your needs.
At your initial visit, Dr. Chahine will perform a comprehensive oral examination of the following:
- Oral cancer screening of your face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, tissues, and gums are checked for any signs of oral cancer.
- Periodontal disease evaluation for your gums and the bone surrounding your teeth.
- Decay examination of your teeth
- Restorative evaluation of your fillings, crowns, etc.
- Diagnostic radiographs (x-rays) as needed for the detection of decay, bone loss, tumors, etc.
Dental X-Rays
Dental radiographs (x-rays) are an essential diagnostic tool that provide valuable information that will accurately detect hidden dental abnormalities. Without x-rays, problem areas may go undetected. Detecting and treating dental problems at an early stage is important to protect and save your teeth.
Safety of Dental X-rays
We are all exposed to natural radiation in our environment. The amount of radiation exposure from a full mouth series of x-rays is equal to the amount a person receives in a single day from natural sources.
Digital radiography significantly reduces the radiation exposure. At Dental Wellness and Health we use state of the art Digital Radiographic equipment (Planmeca) to obtain both individual and panoramic radiographs.
