Our Valued Patients
In 2008 I was diagnosed with mild to moderate sleep apnea following a sleep study at Danbury Hospital. I knew I had a problem, both because of difficulty staying asleep at night, and having been told that I snored. As a result of the study, I was fitted with a CPAP device. Initially, I was able to use the device, but as time went on I found it increasingly difficult to manage. The machine was noisy, I had numerous leaks, and considerable discomfort. The masks were changed, the machine itself was changed, but the problems persisted. The noise of my own breathing with the mask became so impossible to sleep with, that I stopped using the machine.
In 2011 I returned again to Danbury Hospital, and saw Dr. Tucker, We discussed again the difficulty I was having with the machine, and he suggested that I try again, then perhaps consider other options. Ultimately, he referred me to Dr. Chahine to be fitted for an oral appliance. She gave me an extremely thorough examinantion and fitting, as well as a simple breathing test device to use one night prior to getting the appliance. She also gave me a clear, thorough explanation of how the device works, and what to expect.
My life has changed! The appliance is comfortable and simple to use; there are no issues with noises or getting tangled up in tubes. Best of all, I am sleeping through the nights and even having dreams, which had not been the case for a long time. I have been told that I am not snoring any longer! I cannot adequately describe how much I appreciate this appliance, and the help from Dr. Chahine. It seems like years since I got enough good sleep, and now my energy level is greatly improved, as is my outlook on life!
What is it?
It is very painful. It makes you grind your teeth, clenching your jaw while asleep or sometimes when you are reading or doing your job.
I had awful headaches; I thought I had a tumor. The side of my head ached so much that I was living on Advil. It really didn’t help, but lessened the pain. My PCP sent me to the dentist, since he said it was not a tumor. So off I went, and was told I had TMJ.
I went through 3 mouth appliances and still have pain. I would have to hold my jaw and try to relax it by messaging it for at least 14 to 20 minutes. Over time I ground holes in all 3 appliances.
About 3-4 months ago, I was introduced to Dr. Leila Chahine. She gave me a thorough examination and tried to adjust my current mouth appliance, but it was to far gone. She then made me a new appliance with a little twist. She designed a whole new mouth appliance with a little piece just behind my two front teeth so that I would grind and clench against it. She spent numerous hours with me making adjustments to the upper appliance. She found that when I was still grinding, I was stopped by an uneven bottom tooth. She then made me an appliance for my bottom teeth and what a difference it has made. I am now 95% pain free and in the morning my mouth is relaxed.
What a wonderful caring person and such a pleasure to be treated by her. She is a credit to her profession. I have since transferred my dental records to her office, as she is also a dentist, does dental implants and is an orthodontist. I like to call it “one stop shopping.”
Thank you so much Dr. Chahine, you’re one in a million.
Dear Dr. Chahine,
I am writing to tell you how pleased I am with my new smile. I had my front teeth capped over thirty-five years ago to cover gaps and cracks from sports injuries. Due to gum loss I became increasingly unhappy and self-conscious with my teeth’s appearance. After a consultation and thorough evaluation by you and your staff, I felt confident in my decision to proceed with the replacement that you suggested. I was very impressed with your state-of-the-art facility and digital x- rays. Additionally, you were very informative and helpful in selecting the appropriate shade, shape and contour of the caps. I’m so happy that I took your suggestion to have veneers for my other four front teeth. The overall transition has been amazing and has given me a smile I never anticipated having. My wife could not have been more pleased. Thank you so much for all your care.
Over one year ago, I had a mouth guard made for me. It was the miracle I was looking for! I no longer wake up with severe head and jaw aches. In general, it has contributed to my better health and drastic reduction in headaches. Another benefit is my quality of sleep. When a sleep study showed that I needed an appliance to allow my body to go into REM sleep longer, I thought the mouth guard would be the first step then the appliance would be second. The great reality is that I no longer wake up feeling as if I didn’t sleep. On the few nights that I don’t wear it I feel less rested in the morning. The mouth guard was all I needed and has taken care of so many issues. I wouldn’t have known how to take care if I hadn’t been guided so well by Dr. Chahine. The care and time she took in making my mouth guard and making sure it fit properly was fantastic, not to mention, greatly appreciated! I would, and have recommended her to friends!
The doctor took the time to explain the dental appliance process to me as far as pros and cons were concerned. She consulted with my sleep apnea doctor and after careful consideration I decided to move forward.
I have been using the appliance now for the past four months and I’m absolutely thrilled with the results.
Thank you to Dr. Chahine and I highly recommend anyone with a similar issue to go see her.
I would never have thought that changing from the dentist I knew and felt good about to Dr. Chahine and her group could make such a large difference in the condition of my teeth, gums and mouth in general, But it did. In fact it was boost to my quality of life in general. This may sound like hyperbole, but it’s not.
My first insight into the great jump forward was in the increased health & comfort of my mouth from the work done to prevent any increase in the problems I had and improving the condition of my gums. The use of advanced technics and a higher level of care and caring soon became evident.
Dr. Chahine’s knowledge of very current and advanced dental science and her ability to apply it to the condition of my gums and teeth is very impressive. The increased quality of the cleanings and the feedback to me and to Dr. Chahine was another big improvement in my dental experience. The interaction with the front office continued the professionalism and friendliness I have been experiencing in the dental work itself.
My entire family has switched to Dr. Chahine’s care. I speak of the high quality care in conversation with friends. As should be obvious at this point, I do unconditionally recommend Dr. Chahine!
